Community Camera Program

The goal of the City of Knoxville Camera Progam is to build a partnership between police and residents to keep our neighborhoods safe. Such a partnership is something we highly value here in our community. Video surveillance cameras are not just a great tool for homeowners; they're also helpful to the police. Often, security cameras capture valuable information, however, if residents are unaware of a crime, this information may never get to the police. In turn, the police may not be aware of who may have critical information.

This is why the City of Knoxville Police Department is asking people to register their cameras. Participation in the program is 100% voluntary, and you can opt-out at any time. You are not obligated to share your footage.

The Knoxville Community Camera Program allows residents and business owners to register camera locations with the Knoxville Police Department. Using this information when a crime occurs, the department will know the location of nearby video cameras and will be able to collect any related evidence to follow up on leads. Information gathers from the security cameras can assist in the apprehension and prosecution of the criminals involved.

The City of Knoxville Police Department will only contact registered camera owners if a criminal incident occurs within the vicinity of the respective security camera and if the officers think the footage would assist in the investigation. The Knoxville Police Department will not have remote access to your cameras, and will never access your cameras without your knowledge. Officers will only have access to your contact information.
