[ARCHIVED] Neglect/Abandonment of a Dependent Person Arrest

On Thursday July 25 Knoxville Police Officers were contacted by a representative of DHS about an allegation that a small child had been placed in a dog shock collar and shocked by a parent. Additionally, the child was alleged to have been placed in a high chair that was placed on the side of the street with a sign stating “I refused to eat my big boy food, please feed me - I’m hungry.”

After an investigation, Knoxville resident Daniel Lee Hardwick was arrested that same day and transported to the Marion County Jail for Neglect or Abandonment of a Dependent Person.

Earlier information about this arrest indicated that the victim was 4 years old. Actually the child was the suspect’s 12-year-old son. The police department apologizes for the earlier error.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible.

As always, all persons arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
